Harlem-bred vocalist Kelis left her parents' home at 16, but continued her education at the famed Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. 2 years later with the support of producers The Neptunes, she landed herself a recording deal. In 2003 Kelis released Tasty which included the SMASH HIT "Milkshake." In 2006, her fourth album, Kelis Was Here, was released and led by the duly assertive "Bossy."
Currently her hit single “Acapella” is dominating the dance charts. Kelis has made it very clear that she isn’t going anywhere. Her next single “4th of July” hits the airwaves next month. She will be performing for all the gays at the Los Angeles Pride Celebration on Saturday, June 12, 2010 @ 6:00pm! I got a chance to talk to Kelis about her Upcoming record, her mother’s advice and L.A. Pride. Check it out!
When did you realize you wanted to pursue music as a career? When they told me they would pay me for it! ;) lol! I didn’t really have a plan, I just sang and hoped it would all sort of happen.
Who/ What inspired you to be a singer?I wasn’t really aware of inspiration until recently. I just did what was inside of me. At a young age I naturally started singing; it was a natural progression of who i was and wanted to be.
What are you currently listening to in your iPod/ mp3 player? The last record that I intentionally listened to was “Mezzanine” by Massive Attack, it’s a glorious and amazing album from beginning to end.
What can we expect from your stage show? I am pretty disorganized, my show changes constantly it’s a surprise to me as well, I have a gig tonight and I still don’t even know what I am wearing, lol.
Describe a “Kelis” experience in 5 words.Impromptu. Glitter. Loud. Fun. Shoes
If you had to pick ONE artist to sing with dead or alive who would it be? Sam Cooke, his voice is like velvet, i just love him!
What is something that drives you crazy, what is your biggest pet peeve?A loose chewer literally revolts me!
Your upcoming record Flesh Tone is slated for a 2010 release, can you tell me a bit about that project? People like to say that this is my comeback record. I don’t really look at it that way, just get ready because I didn’t “come back” I MULTIPLIED.
Mega DJ David Guetta is really HOT right now, can you tell us a bit about the track/ tracks your working on with him for your next record?One of the tracks I worked with David on is “Scream” It’s a very hard record, extremely rhythmic and the lyrics that i wrote are like a deep inhale, it takes me to another place.
What are you looking forward to most about Los Angeles Pride? That I don’t have to travel! Lol I love being home. MORE BOOKINGS IN LA PLEASE! lol This is my first LA Pride Celebration so I am pretty excited, Its going to be fun!
In a “fantasy world” if Kelis were to have a lesbian lover, who would it be and why? I would clone myself because i don’t like that many people. Lol Like my mother said, “If you’re not good company for yourself then your not good company for anyone else.”

Terri Nunn, the famed Berlin vocal Icon with over 3 decades on stage, headlines The 2009 LA Gay Pride Festival Sunday Night, June 14. So get your ass out on that Metro and get ready to have your breath stolen by the rock powerhouse and creator of New Wave/Electro Pop Music.
1 After so many years in the business, what keeps you going? How does it stay fresh? What keeps it fresh for me is working on new songs and new elements for the live show. Lately we’ve added dancers and new videos that run with our songs. Also working with new collaborators , writers and musicians like Dave Schulz, our newest member who comes from The Goo Goo Dolls and General Public. Their fresh take on things really inspires me.
2 What is next for Terri Nunn and Berlin? This year is pretty big for us. We have a new DVD/CD package coming out mid-June called “TERRI NUNN & BERLIN: ALL THE WAY IN.” It’s a chronicle of our new live show, and includes songs from the beginning of Berlin all the way to our future, songs that haven’t even been released yet. We’re also co-headlining The Regeneration Tour with ABC this summer, going all over the US! I’m excited to play with ABC, I hear their live show is awesome! The full list of our dates is on our website, Berlinpage.com, and on my Myspace and Facebook pages. There will also be an album of all-new songs coming out later this year that I’m working on now.
3 Where can we buy the new DVD/CD package? People can buy it at our shows, including LA Pride June 14 where it will be the first time it will be available for purchase, at our website www.berlinpage.com, and in retail outlets and online at iTunes and other online retailers beginning in July.
4 What is your favorite and least favorite song to perform? Why? Songs are like my kids so I feel bad naming a song that’s my least favorite to perform! Plus that answer changes all the time. My favorites to perform lately are “Sex (I’m A)” because I change up the lyrics every night depending on how I’m feeling, and “The Dope Show” because it’s so fun and trashy and we have dancers on that song right now.
5 What was the last song from another artist that you listened to and honestly enjoyed? I’m going to say an album, ‘The Seventh Tree’ by Goldfrapp. I actually heard the band do it live first and was so blown away, I bought it. It’s really beautiful and that girl can fucking sing!
6 If you could collaborate with one last artist, who would it be and why? One last artist? Can I pick a few? Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Chris Cornell and Alison Goldfrapp. Trent is amazing at what he does and one of my favorite singers out there, along with Chris Cornell. And they’re both HOT! Alison I just spoke about and I think strong women together on a song is fantastic.
7 Local promoters Cheyne Hauk & Megan Brooks have named their club after “The Metro” at one of the local bars “FUBAR” Its called “Metro Mondayz.” It has turned into one of the hottest places to be seen in West Hollywood . Any chance of you coming to make a cameo? I’m honored! I would love to come check it out sometime – have them email my manager :)
8 Have you ever seen a Drag Queen impersonate you? If so what went through your mind? Again, I felt honored. It was great because he was both ragging on me and honoring me. I loved it!
9 You recently wrote in a book giving advice on sex called, Cherry Bomb, your chapter was called “Dating, Doing it, and Dumping.” Give me a taste of what we can learn from you about dating? Ok, here’s an excerpt: “Make love to your own sex at least once… it totally changed my life for the better. I discovered how amazing I felt to a guy (she felt AMAZING!), how awesome my lips must feel (kissing her was completely different than a guy — fantastic!) and how much fun it must be to watch me come (she was incredible!). In short, being a girl rocks, and how else will you ever know this experientially? I didn’t expect this extra perk when I did it, but not only was it amazing, it gave me a new sense of self-esteem.”
10 The Pride Festival in LA is HUGE! What can we expect on stage? Our new show is fucking exciting, AND the last 10 minutes of this Pride concert we’re doing a surprise for this show and this show ONLY.

If God is a DJ, then Tracy Young is the closest we mortals may get to a divine experience on the dance floor. For the last decade, this superstar DJ/producer has been responsible for elevating the sounds of dance music to heavenly heights; spinning the hottest tracks, concocting the fiercest beats, and headlining the globes largest, most exciting events. But with her latest compilation, “Genesis” and one of the headlining DJ’s for LA Pride, Tracy Young is giving fans one more reason to include her among the pantheon of DJ deities.
1.What motivated you to become a full-time DJ? That's easy....my love for MUSIC!
2.After releasing over 8 Albums what sets "Genesis" apart from the rest of your compilations? Like any album that an artist does, I think it shows growth and where somebody is musically. Compilations are sometimes are difficult for me because it's hard to express myself in 80 minutes or less. Genesis is a true representation of where I am.
3."Genesis" is not only the name of your current album, but an event that you have been producing for the last 6 years. How does producing an event compare to remixing a record?I think they are similar in that the music is what's most important. When a DJ produces an event I believe that they focus on the music first and ultimately I feel that is what is most important in creating the mood of an event.
4.You have mixed countless of remixes for high profile names like Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Britney Spears. What track was the most fun to remix? Why?It's hard to pick one...They all have a special place in my heart. More Recently, I think “Defying Gravity” by Idina Menzel from WICKED or “Stand Back” by Stevie Nicks were challenging remixes to create.
5.This Question is for all the curious "bachelorettes" What do you look for in a partner?Honesty and Loyalty are my biggest MUSTS in a person, friend or lover!
6.I interviewed Lady Gaga recently and she mentioned you as her favorite White Party Palm Springs artist. Dare I ask who your favorite White Party Palm Springs performer is?Lady Gaga
7.What Recording Artist would you like to work with next? Why?I would love to work with Lady Gaga because I think she has an incredible voice and is an amazing writer. I have always wanted to work with Sarah McLachlan or Annie Lennox as well.
8.You will be spinning at LA Gay Pride on June 14th. Are you bringing anything special to the turn tables? A lot of energy and vocals...signature Tracy Young.
9.What is your favorite thing about playing in Los Angeles? I love LA and want to start playing out there more often. I love the energy of the city and am making a bunch of wonderful friends there...who knows, maybe I will move there!
