Transgender hip hop artist Foxxjazell releases new album “Boy, Girl, Whateva”
LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 23, 2010 – Back on the scene with the highly-anticipated sophomore album Boy, Girl, Whateva, Foxxjazell lit up the stage of a local LA hotspot last week performing her hit single “Split Enz.” Now more than ever, the eyes of the GLBTQ community are looking to see how Foxxjazell’s music will respond to past controversy in the hip hop industry, and the new album undoubtedly delivers.
“Everything just feels more personal this time around,” says Foxxjazell. “I wrote most of the twelve tracks on this album and I really put what I was going through in a lot of my music. There’s more growth, maturity, emotion…and most definitely more TEA.”
Partnering with the weekly promoted event “Mustache Mondayz” at La Cita Bar in downtown LA, Foxxjazell’s west coast album release party was a great success. The event attracted more than two hundred music lovers, including such supporters as Ongina and Shangela from LOGO’s Rupaul’s Drag Race, and even noted film actress Judy Greer. “I’m a huge fan of all kinds of music, including hip hop,” said Ongina. “Foxxjazell’s performance was fierce and hot.”
Coined by Tyra Banks as “America’s first transgender hip hop artist” during an appearance on The Tyra Banks Show, Foxxjazell has experienced formidable success during her career in an industry generally plagued by homophobia. Her music continues to be featured on radio stations across the continent, and her music video for “Split Enz” recently hit number four on LOGO network’s “The Click List.”
Boy, Girl, Whateva is currently available for pre-order via online music retailers worldwide, and features tracks co-written and produced by fellow industry pros Ashley Breathe, Last Offence, Prince Cat-Eyez, The Perry Twins and J2 Beatz. The album will hit select stores after the East Coast release party, scheduled for April 14 at New York City’s Splash Bar.
