The Top Ten Q & A: La Roux

La Roux is the hottest British electro pop synth import that will be on repeat all year! The band consists of singer, Elly Jackson and co-producer Ben Langmaid. The band recently performed a sold out show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood and didn’t disappoint. I can’t pick a favorite song on the record (it’s next to impossible) BUT I can pick a favorite member of the band, William Bowerman. I have never seen anyone make love to a drumset before and let me tell you, I LOVED IT! Moving right along, Elly answered a few questions for me, check them out!

Where did the name "La Roux" originate from? Roux came from a book of children’s names i found in a bin in Brixton [UK]. I added the La and the name was born, although it is grammatically incorrect in French. It should be La Rousse. It means the red-one.

You have a very unique voice that works AMAZINGLY with your pop/dance/electronic sound. When did you realize you wanted to pursue music as a career? My dad bought me a guitar when i was three and i wrote my first song when i was 7 so i think I’ve always felt it was my destiny.

I recently bought your EP "Quicksand" on itunes, it is a on a repeated playlist; I AM HOOKED! When will you have a full album available? Out now in Europe and September 29th in the US of A!

Do you have any upcoming collaborations on the record? If not, what would be your dream duet? No duets. I've been asked a few times but for now its all about establishing La Roux.

What has inspired you to create music? My dad, he inspired me to play the guitar, he bought me a guitar and taught me how to play it. Both my parents have been very supportive over the last 5 years basically paying for me to pursue my dream and thankfully its all worked out. i owe it all to them.

What are you currently listening to in your iPod/ mp3 player? White Lies, Throbbing Gristle, Heaven 17, Jack Penate, Florence and the Machone

What was different about performing in the US? No difference - it's just like starting over again. Back to basics!

You performed at Jeffrey Sanker's 20th Anniversary of White Party Palm Springs, how was that crowd compared to the UK? It was...different. I'm not sure anyone knew who the hell we are. Maybe one or two did and most of the crowd was more interested in each other than us!

After performing at a string of venues in the US, do you have any plans for a more extensive US Tour? We will be back again in October!

What is a "Fun Fact" about La Roux that you would like to share? Ben Langmaid is his stage name. His real name is Len Bangmaid.
